This tour package combines the best of ancient Lhasa city and the Kailash-Mansarovar region. Lhasa, the forbidden city, is the heart and soul of Tibet for centuries and is still a city of wonders. Throughout the history, Lhasa has remained the spiritual, political and economic centre of Tibet.
From Lhasa, the overland trip begins with a scenic drive passing through the historic city of Shigatse to Saga, where we will meet our Nepalese crew and continue driving to Lake Mansarovar. After a puja and dip at holy lake, the drive continues to the base of Kailash for the pilgrimage circumambulation which is also called Kora. You will be blessed with holy bath and Parikrama to achieve your ultimate spiritual goal before returning back to Kathmandu crossing Tibet-Nepal border at Kyirong (Kerung).

Our day begins with a visit to Pashupatinath and Guheshwari temples. Pashupatinath is one of the most important Hindu shrines in the world, and a major deity of Nepal. The main pagoda temple dedicated to Lord Shiva sits on the banks of the holy Bagmati River. There are temple of different other gods and goddesses on the temple premises. Then we will visit Guheshwari Temple. The temple is dedicated to goddess Satidevi – the consort of Lord Shiva. Various Tantric rituals are performed in this temple. Then we return to hotel for lunch. In the afternoon prepare for the Yatra.
Our representative will drive you to Kathmandu airport three hours before your scheduled flight. The flight is of 1 hours 45 minutes and is a trans-Himalayan flight, allowing you opportunities to catch glimpse of high Himalayan peaks. Upon arrival in Lhasa, meet our representative and get transferred to your hotel (90 Kms). Remaining time is to rest and get acclimatized.
We will enjoy sightseeing of major attractions in Lhasa today as we acclimatize to higher altitude. After breakfast, our ay starts with visiting some of the highlights of Lhasa City. Jokhang Temple is the main spiritual center of Tibet. The outer courtyard and porch of the temple are usually filled with pilgrims making full-length prostration toward the holy sanctum. Its innermost part of the temple contains the oldest gold stature of Sakyamuni Buddha. This four story temple was built in the 10th century. Tour continues to Sera Monastery, established in 1,419 is one of the great seats of learning in the Mahayana Buddhist tradition. We then visit Barkhor Street, the street circles the Jokhang Temple and is a popular pilgrimage circuit. Almost all Tibetan products are available here. The Barkhor streets gives an insight into the colorful and vibrant Tibetan life.
We will visit one of the main attractions of Lhasa - Potala Palace. It used to be seat of Tibetan Government and the residence of the Dalai Lama. The palace consists of more than 1,000 rooms. The iconic Potala Palace is situated about 130m above Lhasa River and dramatically rises on its rocky base. After this visit Drepung monastery, which is one of the largest Tibetan monasteries. In ancient Tibet, this monastery believed to accommodate 7,700 monks at a time.
Our journey towards Kailash starts. The drive takes around 7 hours. Between the villages and streams, you can see farmers working their fields and the hills dotted by yak and sheep. Shitagse is the second largest city in Tibet. It is a modern city with heavy traffic. Upon your arrival in Shigatse, check into your hotel. A visit to a local monastery can be arranged if you are interested. Afternoon time permitting visit Tashilungpo Monastery.
The drive takes around 6-7 hours. Saga is a comparatively small town. We cross the Brahmaputra River today, which flows through India's Arunanchal, Meghalaya and Assam states, and then to Balgadeshi before draining into the Bay of Bengal. It is the largest town of before Kailash and Mansarovar. We get first view of Mount Kailash from here.
Today, we will drive to Lake Mansarovar (4,500m) at Chiu Gompa (422 Kms). This section of the route is one of the most beautiful parts of the drive passing through Mayum La and Chongo Lake. Lake Mansarovar is regarded as the holiest of holy lakes in Tibet. Mount GurlaMandata (7,728m) stands on the south side and holy Mount Kailash stands on the north side of Lake Mansarovar. One can enjoy stunning scenery, exotic landscape of the high Himalayan plateau, and view of the Himalayas.
Morning is free time for you to perform Hawan and Pooja on the banks of the Lake Mansarovar. After the Pooja and lunch, we will drive toward Darchen (53 Kms). Darchen is the gateway to Mount Kailash. We take ample rest today as our Kailash Parikrama will begin from tomorrow.
We continue our drive to Yama Dwar from where our Parikrama begins. We start walking from Yama Dwar toward Diraphuk. The distance is about 10 kilometers and the trail is generally flat and easy. We walk enjoying the rugged Tibetan landscape.
This is going to be a long and difficult day as we will be crossing a high pass Dolma La (5650m). Weather at the high Himalayan pass is unpredictable and can change anytime. Dolma Pass is the ultimate point of this Yatra. We start the journey as early as possible as the weather can change in the second half of the day. This day, we can have darshan of Gaurikunda. But the way down the lake is very difficult. Upon arrival in Zuthulphuk, we check into our lodge after a long day of walk of 20-22 Kms taking 10-11 hours.
We continue our trek till Zhongdo (5 Kms) where our Yatra and ends successfully. At Zhongdo, we board our waiting vehicle and start driving toward Saga. It is a beautiful drive and as we will be descending to lower altitude, we will feel much easier and comfortable.
Today, we will leave Tibet and enter Nepal. The day begins with a drive to Kerung – the Tibetan town near Nepal-China border. From here, the Nepal-Tibet border is only about 25 kilometers away. After completing customs and immigration formalities at the border, we enter Nepal and continue driving till Syabrubensi where we stop for the night.
A drive of around 7 hours will take us to Kathmandu (172 Kms) today. The road is narrow and winding in the beginning. But it's an easy drive in the latter half. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, you will be transferred to your hotel. We will celebrate the success of the Yatra by organizing a farewell dinner for you in the evening.
Your last day in Nepal! Our representative will transfer you to the airport some three hours ahead of our flight time so that you do not have to rush through customs and immigration formalities. You will have plenty of time to reflect on your successful Yatra and plan for your next holiday.
