After a wonderful time Lhasa in Lhasa our adventure continues with scenic overland drive to Gynatse and Shigatse crossing over high passes of Kamba-la-Karo-la and Simi-la of above 4,800 and 5,000 meters high with incredible views of Tibetan vast landscapes with snowcapped peaks.

At Gynatse tour of famous Khumbum Stupa and heading to Tibet’s 2nd largest city at Shigatse the seat of his holiness Panchen Lama visiting magnificent Tashilumpo monastery.

From here our journey heads South West Tibet towards Mt. Kailash & Lake Manasarover where you can see the real Tibetan life style with traditional farm villages and towns including nomads tented camps with Yaks grazing on this world high and largest plateau.

This unique journey takes you remote side of Tibet South West of Ngari area bordering West Nepal-North West India of Ladakh and close to Pakistan frontier.

Journey offers mind-blowing scenery of windswept dry and high terrain lined with array of snow capped mountains that straddles border with Nepal and Tibet.

Although a desert like appearance with moonscape, journey to Mt. Kailash & Lake Manasarover is an experience of a life time in the high altitude where the average elevations above 4,000 meters high, where you can witness ancient Bon (pre-Buddhism) and Tibetan Buddhism culture with fascinating customs which makes this trip so special.

Drive leads past over several high passes and towns of, Saga, Paryang to reach at Horpa eastern side of sacred Lake Manasarover with first view of Mt. Kailash.

Finally reaching on the foot of Holy Mt. Kailash at 6,714 m / 22,028 ft high, wholly within Tibet an amazing mountain of beauty and grace, with four great cardinal faces, eastern face is believed to be crystal, the western ruby, the southern sapphire and the northern gold.

It is the spiritual centre for four great religions: Tibetan Buddhism, Hinduism, Jain and the pre-Buddhist animistic religion-Bonpa.

The highest point of this trip on top of holy Dorma-la pass at 5, 470 meters high, from here after some prayers and offering descend to Lamchu valley at Zutul-Puk 4,760 m and then a pleasant walk back to Darchen completing the holy pilgrimage and kora.

After a great spiritual moment, feeling high return journey on the same route to reach Saga, from here on newly opened road to Kathmandu via Kyirong border town with great lifetime experience on holy Mt. Kailash & Lake Manasarover trip with great service of Himex Nepal team of Nepalese and Tibetan staff.

At present due to broken road from 25th April & 12th May 2015 earthquake, the normal route from Kodari / Zhangmu is closed, however this holy Yatra or pilgrimage can be done from newly opened Kyirong border.

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.

On arrival at Kathmandu Tribhuvan International Airport, received by Himex staff transfer to your hotels, where our guide / leader will brief on Lhasa to Kailash & Lake Manasarover, hotels, lodge on route with do and don’ts with evening group welcome dinner.

Day 02: In Kathmandu sightseeing and preparation for the trip.

Morning after breakfast at given time our city guide will take you on tour around places of interest and importance, as Kathmandu Valley is full of World Heritage Sites the holy Pashupatinath temple, Bouddhanath (Little Tibet), Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple) & monasteries, ancient Palaces and courtyard; after an interesting sightseeing back to hotel, preparation for Kailash trip and Tibet.

Day 03: Fly to Lhasa 3,650 m and transfer to hotel.

Morning an hour scenic flight over high Himalayan range with views of Mt. Everest and Mt. Makalu, on arrival at Gongor airport near Lhasa. Our Tibetan guide will receive then transfer to Lhasa with an hour drive, on reaching Lhasa transfer into best available hotels in old section of Lhasa where you can observe old Buddhist culture, afternoon visit Barkhor Market near Jorkhang Temple premises in the heart of Lhasa.

Day 04-05: In Lhasa with sightseeing at places of interest.

Lhasa at 3,600m/12,000ft provides good acclimatization tour starts from morning till late afternoon with lunch break near or around hotel premises, guided tour with our expert Tibetan guide sightseeing of Potala Palace, Norbulingkha Summer Palace, Sera and Drepung Monastery.

Lhasa was a holy grail for many central Asian explorers in the past centuries, the Lhasa city has been changed and altered by the Chinese occupation and in the impact of foreign visitors, however much of the original character remains and whilst jostling through the Potala with crowds of ethnic Tibetans, it is hard not to be captivated by this magnificent culture, religion and traditions.

Day 06: Drive to Gyantse 3,950 m - 05 hrs.

Starting with scenic drive to Gyantse town, drive leads over Yarlung Tsangpa River (Bhramaputra River) which flows from Mt. Kailash. Drive slowly climbs over Khamba-la at 4,800 meters with views of amazing landscape and snowcapped peaks.

After short stop drive continues to Yamdrok Tsho and Ngartse town and then over Karo-la at 5,050 meter pass.

These areas located in a narrow mountain gorge with amazing views of ice falls and glacier of Mt. Nzongkhangsa at 7,206 meters. Drive for another three hours to Gyantse for overnight stop. Gyantse city third largest settlement in Tibet, in Gyantse tour of Kumbum Stupa built in early 15 th century and contains thousands of frescoes.

Day 07: Drive to Shigatse 3,900m - 03 hrs

Morning a short drive leads to Shigatse, second largest city in Tibet after Lhasa, drive covers distance of 95 k. m. The road has recently been improved from bumpy and rutted portion. On leaving Gyantse journey begins on long straight road, with no hills to climb.

The road follows Nyang Chu River through farm villages and fields and finally reaching in Shigatse with nice hotel accommodation.

In Shigatse visit the very large complex of Tashilumpo monastery, traditional residence of Panchen Lama, contains a 27m high gold plated Matria Buddha (future Buddha), afternoon visit local market.

Day 08: Drive to Saga 4, 400 m - 06 hrs.

After a wonderful stop in Shigtse, morning drive on main Kathmandu / Lhasa Friendship highway, passing town of Larze where road to Mt. Kailash joins. After Larze drive climbs to several high passes and continue heading towards remote corners of Tibet passing many farm villages and passes. The drive reaches near Yalung Tsangpo (Brahmaputra) River which flows from Mt. Kailash.

Saga a small town slowly turning into city with lodge, hotels and restaurants, on arrival check into the best available hotels or in guest houses for overnights, where our Nepali staff joins from here on.

Day 09: Drive to Paryang 4,550 m - 05 hrs.

Starting the morning drive leading past Saga in complete wilderness, after few hours’ drive the road winds and climbs to a pass of about 4,900 m and then descends to a long stretch flat area, on a clear day great views of the distant snow capped peaks towards North West Nepal, after few hours of scenic drive then reaching a windswept village at Paryang for overnight stop.

Day 10: Drive to east Manasarover 4,550 m - 06 hrs (approx: 240 k.m.)

Morning continues drive passing some small villages and nomads camps, and then over Mayam-la at 5,150m to reach at east of Lake Manasarover for overnight stop near Horpa town with first view of Mt. Kailash towards North West direction.

Day 11: Acclimatization and Rest Day at Manasarover.

Rest day for acclimatization with optional short walk around Manasarover, a sacred lake located between Mt. Kailash 6,714m and the Gurla Mandhata mountain range at 7,694 m. Manasarover floats beneath the shadow of holy Kailash as the lake formed in the mind of Gods.

The best time to circle Manasarover is in late autumn and early spring when the streams and rivers flowing into the lake are low. It is then possible to walk very near the shoreline. An optional circuit or parikrama on drive trip around Manasarover Lake can be done on request which takes about 3-4 hrs of 110 k.m distance round trip.

Day 12: Drive to Tarboche via Darchen 4,600m walk to Dhiraphuk 4,900 m (12 k.m.).

After a wonderful rest at holy Lake Manasarover, a short drive to Darchen town with many hotels and guesthouses, a busy small town with pilgrims during auspicious time for parikrama / kora (circumambulation). Darchen located South Face of Mt. Kailash where holy walk / kora start and ends, our drive leads North West at holy spot of Tarboche where walk starts with view of Mt. Kailash West Face.

Kailash (6,714m.), the heart of ancient Shangshung kingdom supposed country of pre-Buddhist Bonpos origin. After 4 hrs walks brings you at Diraphuk Gompa for overnight stop in a simple lodge.

Day 13: Trek to Zutul-Puk 4,760 m via Dorma-la 5, 470 m. (22 k.m.)

After Dhiraphuk, morning walk on gradual path for an hour then climb to reach top at Dromo-la the highest point of the journey and a holy spot at 5,470m /18,525ft. A big boulder represents the goddess Dolma or Dromo (Tara) festooned with prayer flags. This spot is the physical and spiritual high point of pilgrimage. From here descend to the bottoms of the hill and walk to Zutul-Puk Gompa for overnight stop, Zuthul means cave. The place is named after a cave in which the poet, saint Milarepa stayed meditating. His footprint still remains on the roof.

Day 14: Trek to near Darchen (08 k.m) and drive near Maium-la.

Last day of holy walk ‘kora’ or parikrama, starts with an easy walk of 3 hours on a broad plain passing many mani walls, then coming to a narrow valley with short section of gorge as the route turns towards west to Darchen, the last leg of the walk make a dramatic exit from the river valley on to the plain, walk passes mani walls decorated with carved yak skulls. A short walk from here brings at near Darchen with an end of this great trek, from here drive back near Maium-la around Lake Manasarover for overnight stop.

Day 15: Retrace the journey to Saga via Paryang – 06 hrs.

A long drive today to reach at Saga town via Paryang, retracing journey on the same route for 6-7 hours of overland drive to Saga for overnight stop.

Day 16: Drive to Kyirong and camp or in local guesthouse - 05 hrs.

Drive back heading due south to Kyirong County after driving past and end of vast Tibetan plateau following the same route to Kyirong for last overnight stop in Tibetan soil.

Day 17: Drive to Dhunche town 1,950 m – 06 hrs.

Morning drive to frontier post of Tibet / China at Rasuwagadhi after visa and custom formalities bidding farewell to our Tibetan guide and drivers then towards Nepal border side at Rasuwagadhi, here after completing final immigration process drive on rough road for a while reaching Syabrubesi village. After a short rest continue drive up hill to Dhunche town for overnight stop. Dhunche the main and district headquarter town of Langtang and Rasuwa.

Day 18: Drive to Kathmandu and transfer to hotel - 06 hrs.

After a wonderful time and experience on holy journey to Mt. Kailash, morning drive to Kathmandu with long winding downhill ride to warmer area of Trisuli bazaar and continue drive passing many farm villages and town to reach Kathmandu.

Day 19: International departure for homeward bound.

Last day in Nepal as per your international flight time our staff transfers you to Kathmandu airport for your flight homeward bound or to respective countries and port of call, with amazing memories of holy journey Lhasa to Mt. Kailash.
