Holy Mt. Kailash & Lake Manasarover are among the holiest of all places on this planet. The journey to this area is made possible over the past ten years with good motor-able road on World's highest and largest Tibetan plateau where Mt. Kailash & Lake Manasarover is located.


HimEx Nepal offers pilgrimage for interested people to pay homage to World's greatest holy sites - Holy Mt. Kailash and Sacred Lake Manasarover.

This unique journey takes you to remote side of Tibet South West of Ngari area bordering West Nepal-North West India of Ladakh and close to Pakistan frontier.

This Journey offers mind-blowing scenery of windswept dry and high terrain, lined with array of snow capped mountains that straddles border with Nepal and Tibet.

Although a desert like appearance with moonscape, journey to Mt. Kailash & Lake Manasarover is an experience of a life time in the high altitude where the average elevations above 4,000 meters high, one can also witness ancient Bon (pre-Buddhism) and Tibetan Buddhism culture with fascinating customs which makes this trip so special.

Mt. Kailash at 6,714 m / 22,028 ft high, wholly within Tibet, is an amazing mountain of beauty and grace, with four great cardinal faces, eastern face is believed to be crystal, the western ruby, the southern sapphire and the northern gold.

It is the spiritual centre for four great religions: Tibetan Buddhism, Hinduism, Jain and the pre-Buddhist animistic religion-Bonpa.

Our journey to Holy Mt. Kailash & Manasarover starts with an interesting overland drive from Kathmandu towards newly opened frontier post of Nepal and Tibet / China at Kyirong with overnight at Syabrubesi around Langtang / Rasuwa area.

At Kyrong Tibet / China, our Tibetan guides and drivers receives you for onward journey in the comfort of Four Wheel Drive and supporting Truck to load our camping gear and foods for this trip.

On going through immigration and custom formalities, you'll head toward the inner Tibet on leaving green vegetation and forested area towards dry, arid arctic region on high and vast Tibetan plateau with great views of Mt. Shishapangma, Dorji Lakpa, Ganesh Himal (Yangra) at 7,422 m and Langtang range of peaks as the drive leads past over several high passes and towns of, Saga, Paryang to reach at Horpa eastern side of sacred Lake Manasarover with first view of Mt. Kailash.

From here, drive towards Darchen town located on vast Barkha plain and to Tarboche a holy spot, where this Kora / Parikrama / Circuit begins with fantastic views of Mt. Kailash West Face; walk commences,  gradually up to reach at Dhiraphuk with views of magnificent Mt. Kailash North Face and then climbing on top of high and holy spot at Dorma-la pass adorned with prayer flags and offering.

The highest point of this trip is at 5, 470 meters high on top of holy Dorma –la pass; from here after some prayers and offering descend to Lamchu valley at Zutul-Puk 4,760 m and then a pleasant walk back to Darchen, completing the holy pilgrimage and kora in Tibetans.

A short drive from Darchen leads to Lake Manasarover, a huge emerald colored lake where one can perform religious rites and puja.

After a great spiritual moment, feeling high, we head back on the same route to reach Kathmandu with great lifetime experience on holy Mt. Kailash & Lake Manasarover trip with outmost service of HimEx Nepal / team of Nepalese and Tibetan staff.

At present, due to broken road from 25th April & 12th May 2015 earthquake, the normal route from Kodari / Zhangmu is closed, however this holy Yatra or pilgrimage can be done from newly opened Kyirong border.

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.

On arrival at Kathmandu Tribhuvan International Airport, received by Himex staff transfer to your hotels, where our guide / leader will brief on Kailash & Lake Manasarover, hotels, lodge on route with do and don’ts with evening group welcome dinner.

Day 02: In Kathmandu with guided tours at places of interest and trek preparation.

Reserved a day in Kathmandu for optional sightseeing tour and trek preparations, on this day an ideal few hour tours around interesting part of Kathmandu city, steeped with heritage sites of temples and monasteries including old palace and royal courtyard.

Day 03: Drive to Syabrubesi 1,460 m - 07 hrs journey (145 k.m.)

Starting this wonderful journey driving towards North West of Kathmandu passing interesting villages and towns with fabulous scenery of hills, farm terraces and snowcapped peaks after warm area reaching to cooler region at Langtang National Park entrance in Dhunche 1950 meters, major and headquarter town of Rasuwa district and Langtang area, inhabited mostly of Tamang ethnic tribes throughout Rasuwa area.

From here downhill for two hours with overnight at Syabrubesi, the door to Langtang, Ganesh and into Tamang Heritage Trail and as well to Tibet border.

Day 04: Drive to Kyirong County 3,950 m -105 k.m via Rasuwagadhi 1,800 m.

From Syabrubesi morning drive on newly built road linking Nepal / Tibet border to Rasuwagadhi (1800m / 15 km / 1 hr min from Syabrubesi), here received by our Tibetan counterpart guide and drivers, after completing immigration & custom formalities on both side of the frontier Nepal / Tibet at Rasuwagadhi, continue drive further to Kyirong county with first overnight stop in Tibet accommodation at local guest-house.

Day 05: In Kyirong rest day for acclimatization.

A necessary and important rest day for acclimatization before heading higher terrain as this village a perfect spot for rest with an altitude of 3,950 m as next day drive leads above 4,500 meters and much higher over passes. At Kyirong relax and enjoy the views of Ganesh and Langtang Himal peaks towards south that borders Nepal and Tibet.

Kyirong is also a famous religious and historical place, home of 11 th Centaury great saint and Guru Milarepa known for his tantric wisdom as well a poet and folk singer, his song are still remembered by local herdsman and villagers.

Day 06: Drive to Saga 4,400m - 05 hrs. (approx: 240 k.m)

After a nice pleasant rest and wonderful stop at Kyirong morning continue drive on world highest and largest Tibetan plateau into inner Tibet wild windswept high and dry landscapes, as the drive joins on the road coming from Nylam / Zhangmu near Paikutsho huge salt lakes.

From here heading over a small pass to reach Bhramputra River or Yalung Tsangpo after crossing the river on a bridge reach at Saga town, a growing moderate size town located on route Mt. Kailash and Shigatse / Lhasa.


Day 07: Drive to Paryang 4,550 m - 05 hrs. (approx: 210 k.m.)

From Saga few hours drive over a pass then descending to long stretch of Tibetan plains, with great views of distant peaks. Drive passes few villages and nomads / yak herders’ camps and then reaching a windswept village at Paryang.

Paryang at approx 4,550m is a village of 15-20 houses mainly serving as Guest houses and Lodge, where the facilities are very simple and basic.

Day 08: Drive to east Manasarover 4,550m - 06 hrs (approx: 240 k.m.)

Morning continues drive passing some small villages and nomads camps, and then over Mayam-la at 5,150m to reach at east of Lake Manasarover for overnight stop near Horpa town with first view of Mt. Kailash towards North West direction.

Day 09: Acclimatization and Rest Day at Manasarover.

Rest day for acclimatization with optional short walk around Manasarover, a sacred lake located between Mt. Kailash 6,714m and the Gurla Mandhata mountain range at 7,694m. Manasarover floats beneath the shadow of holy Kailash as the lake formed in the mind of Gods. The best time to circle Manasarover is in late autumn and early spring when the streams and rivers flowing into the lake are low. It is then possible to walk very near the shoreline. An optional circuit or parikrama on drive trip around Manasarover Lake can be done on request which takes about 3-4 hrs of 110 k.m distance round trip.

Day 10: Drive to Tarboche via Darchen 4,600m walk to Dhiraphuk 4,900 m (12 k.m.).

After a wonderful rest at holy Lake Manasarover, a short drive to Darchen town with many hotels and guesthouses, a busy small town with pilgrims during auspicious time for parikrama / kora (circumambulation).

Darchen located South Face of Mt. Kailash where holy walk / kora start and ends, our drive leads North West at holy spot of Tarboche where walk starts with view of Mt. Kailash West Face.

Kailash (6,714m.), the heart of ancient Shangshung kingdom supposed country of pre-Buddhist Bonpos origin. After 4 hrs walks brings you at Diraphuk Gompa for overnight stop in a simple lodge.

Day 11: Trek to Zutul-Puk 4,760 m via Dorma-la 5, 470 m. (22 k.m.)

After Dhiraphuk, morning walk on gradual path for an hour then climb to reach top at Dromo-la the highest point of the journey and a holy spot at 5,470m /18,525ft. A big boulder represents the goddess Dolma or Dromo (Tara) festooned with prayer flags. This spot is the physical and spiritual high point of pilgrimage.

From here descend to the bottoms of the hill and walk to Zutul-Puk Gompa for overnight stop, Zuthul means cave. The place is named after a cave in which the poet, saint Milarepa stayed meditating. His footprint still remains on the roof.

Day 12: Trek to near Darchen (08 k.m) and drive near Maium-la.

Last day of holy walk ‘kora’ or parikrama, starts with an easy walk of 3 hours on a broad plain passing many mani walls, then coming to a narrow valley with short section of gorge as the route turns towards west to Darchen, the last leg of the walk make a dramatic exit from the river valley on to the plain, walk passes mani walls decorated with carved yak skulls.

A short walk from here brings at near Darchen with an end of this great trek, from here drive back near Maium-la around Lake Manasarover for overnight stop.

Day 13: Retrace the drive back to Saga via Paryang.

A long drive today to reach at Saga town via Paryang, retracing journey on the same route for 6-7 hours of overland drive to Saga for overnight stop.

Day 14: Drive to Kyirong and camp or in local guesthouse - 05 hrs.

Drive back heading due south to Kyirong County after driving past and end of vast Tibetan plateau following the same route to Kyirong for last overnight stop in Tibetan soil.

Day 15: Drive to Dhunche town 1,950 m – 06 hrs.

Morning drive to frontier post of Tibet / China at Rasuwagadhi after visa and custom formalities bidding farewell to our Tibetan guide and drivers then towards Nepal border side at Rasuwagadhi, here after completing final immigration process drive on rough road for a while reaching Syabrubesi village.

After a short rest continue drive up hill to Dhunche town for overnight stop.

Day 16: Drive back to Kathmandu and transfer to hotel - 06 hrs.

After a wonderful time and experience on a holy journey to Mt. Kailash, morning drive back to Kathmandu with long winding downhill ride to warmer area of Trisuli bazaar and continue drive passing many farm villages and town to reach Kathmandu.

Day 17: International departure for homeward bound.

Last day in Nepal as per your international flight time our staff transfers you to Kathmandu airport for your flight homeward bound or to respective countries and port of call, with amazing memories of holy journey to Mt. Kailash.
